Manhunt: Closing in on a British Paedophile
Correspondent Cathy Newman and director Wael Dabbous tell the story of a landmark police investigation that led to the conviction of a man described by police as one of Britain's most prolific paedophiles. It was the first time a British man had been convicted for sex offences carried out in Africa, and only the third time an offender has been prosecuted for sex crimes committed abroad. The documentary was made by Quicksilver in association with C4 News/ITN
Channel 4 informed the British police of the allegations, and asked Quicksilver and Channel 4 news to investigate further. Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman travelled back to Kenya with Dabbous where they gathered first hand testimony about abuse. Channel 4 passed this fresh evidence to the police who, working with the Kenyan authorities, launched a remarkable operation to bring Harris to justice. In the course of this operation the police discovered he had offended not only in Kenya, but also in the UK.
